Noongar Country8 Sep 2008
Following the success of NOONGAR COUNTRY in recent years, Bunbury Regional Art Galleries will once again present the NOONGAR COUNTRY exhibition, beginning on Saturday 16 August.

This is an exhibition of contemporary art and craft relating to Noongar art, culture and heritage.

NOONGAR COUNTRY features three exhibitions including:

Ngalang Boordiya (Our Bosses) - Contemporary paintings by leading Noongar artists from the South West, Great Southern, Wheatbelt and Peel region. This exhibition features some of the most senior and acclaimed Noongar artists. The theme for the 2008 exhibition is Everyday Heroes or Ngalang Boordiya (Our Bosses). There are many members of the Noongar community who over the years have made huge and important contributions just by the way they live their life and the everyday things they do.

This year $2000 worth of artworks will be bought from this exhibition. The artworks to be acquired will be chosen by an independent visual arts practitioner from Perth, in consultation with the City of Bunbury Art Collection Committee.

Boongarl Yirel – This annual exhibition of contemporary art and craft produced by emerging South West Indigenous artists has developed over the past five years. This exhibition has been a good stepping-stone for the up and coming artists to exhibit works for Noongar Country. Also, Boongarl Yirel exhibition will feature artworks from community workshop which were conducted throughout the region.
